EcoNews #1 Cholera outbreak in California

April 8th, 2012

Dear Greenzoners, have you heard the news?
Dead coot
Near the city of Tulelake, in California, United States, there was an outbreak of avian cholera that struck the coots’ refuge and left over 10 000 birds dead.
The reason of this is that birds, because of drought, gathered together in a tiny space, to seek for water together. But what’s the cause of drought? Ecologists say it’s because nearby farms are using water from Lower Klamath Lake to water their plants and to create artificial fish pools. Meanwhile, the lake is getting dry, leaving no water for birds and causing epidemies.
