EcoNews: the world’s ugliest animal

September 16th, 2013

Dear GreenZoners,

before you read this post and watch picture, remember: we are all “green” people here and we love all animals. Even if they are not cute…

The Ugly Animal Preservation Society has been awarded the ugliest animal on this planet. The winner is…

…THE BLOBFISH

The blobfish (Psychrolutes marcidus) inhabits the deep waters off the coasts of the Australian mainland and Tasmani.

Milky-white in colour, the blobfish can measure up up to a foot in length and dwells between 600 and 1,200 metres below the sea’s surface.

Unfortunately, the species has a habit of being hauled up by fishermen’s trawler nets and is thought to be under serious threat. So not only ugly, it is also endangered. Probably that’s why it looks so sad. Poor blobfish!
