Love Penguins

Last time we were talking about Lemurs. Today we focus on Penguins. Probably everybody has seen penguin walk. It move swaying from side to side with each step like an upside down. It is a result of being heavy animal with short legs. The scientists have found interesting information. This is a very efficient way of walking that to the swaying motion leading to an 80% energy saving compared to a more static walk.

More efficiently and quicker moves out of the water are possible by sliding on belly. They lie down on their front and push themselves with their feet. Although, their walking looks funny, they can travel more than 100 km at times. Penguins are torpedo-shaped birds that live in the southern regions of the Earth. They can’t flight but they are really good swimmers.

Penguins place to live

This animals live up to 80 percent of their lives in the ocean. All of them are living in the Southern Hemisphere. Many people think that all of Penguins live in Antarctica, that is myth. Actually you can find penguins on every continent in the Southern Hemisphere. Another wrong opinion about this animals says that they are living only in cold places. There are Galapagos penguin which lives in tropical islands.
What is delicious for penguins?
They eat only meat – krill, squid and fish. Some species of penguin can make a large dent in an area’s food supply. Penguins hunt for food in the sea. Penguins catch prey with their bills. They swallow it whole while swimming. A penguin has a spiny tongue and powerful jaws to grip slippery prey. The children get food from both parents. Adults don’t make mistake and feed only their own chick. 

Penguin colonies and looking for love

In the time of breeding season, penguins come ashore to form colonies called rookeries, according to Sea World. Penguins colonies are very laud. Their calling is musical and gentle. They radiate a huge crowd. Each nest is just over two pecking distances apart so the penguins can’t reach each other. The most of population is monogamous. They need to be three to eight years old to try find love. Summer and spring are the time for mating ritual.

Penguins love as example

It sounds funny but we can learn a lot from this animals. They are very similar to us. Their colonies are big cause thanks of that they can protect each other. Most of them have a short commute to work finding food. Another thing is having fun. Penguins likes spend the time on playing. They are hanging around with family. Like the humans, they talk and chat each other. This animals are really amazing. The adult one, take responsibility for their children. What Is more, really often express their love to the family. Another funny things? Penguins are smiling a lot! Don’t you think that they are very similar to human?
