Eco News #44 – Peanut the turtle

March 3rd, 2013

Unusual shape of a shell, isn’t it? That’s why the animal you see here is named Peanut – and no, it’s not a name of a species. The shell disfigurement is the cause of littering the oceans – when turtle was still very young, he got wrapped by plastic 6-pack packaging.

He couldn’t get out of this for years, which lead to bad development of his shell.

Unfortunately, the damage is permanent, but Peanut is expected to live long, and happily – as he finally got rid of plastic, obviously uncomfortable wrapping. 😉

Now he serves as a symbol of fight against sea pollution.
